ON FUN ~ Belly Girl...

GYM RATS - #2

So, Aly @ Lip Zip wants to know about Belly Girl…

When I was in college I took an Asian Art History course. Did you know that there are all different types of Buddhas? Even their bellies can be interpreted. Being more of an Impressionist fan, I didn’t take too much away from the course other than that a Buddha’s belly has a story to tell.

Just like the Buddha, hardly any woman has a flat stomach. Sometimes it is because of our diet, or childbirth, or simply because we age. Yet we are obsessed with our guts, our tummies, our bellies. We all think we SHOULD have that perfect figure As Seen On TV. But really now, where the hell else do you see it?

We go out of our way to hide our bellies, to stuff them into Spanx, to create illusions for the world by the clothes that we drape over them. We curse them for making the size of our jeans larger than they should be. We spend our lives looking for that one dress that looks perfect on us despite the imperfect belly.

Belly Girl takes a different approach. She arrives at the gym in beautiful clothes and a polished look. But when she emerges from the locker room, she and her belly tell a different story. She is a toned woman, with the exception of her belly that sticks out between her short tank top and her folded over yoga pants as she toils away on the elliptical and sweats her ass off on the treadmill.

She shows - no, FLAUNTS - her belly with pride. Here it is world! Take it or leave it! She doesn’t care. It never seems to get any smaller for all of her hard work, but she never tries to tuck it away beneath an oversized T-shirt or baggy shorts. Belly Girl’s story is that she has made her peace with her belly and that we would all feel better by doing the same. At least, that is what I think while doing my crunches when she and her belly walk by.

Ooooooh! I like Belly Girl and I love the way you've written this. You're right too! How often do people see our bellies? At the beach if you're wearing a two piece but other than that, what does it matter if it pokes out? I don't plan on going on TV with my belly any time soon so I'm safe...off to eat a midnight snack to celebrate.

Oh yes, Belly Girl must visit my gym, too, but it's "Belly Old Lady" with a wrinkly paunch. The old dudes flirt with her, though.

Tell me about Loud Old Fart!

You are 100% correct. I love your blog!
Belly girls sounds like she could be my bff. LOL Of couse, it isn't my belly that I need to come to terms with. It is my hippo hips...and thunder thighs that give me the biggest problem.

The belly part is my waterloo. It's just so hard to make it go away (the extra belly of course,I wouldn't live if all of my belly is gone) LOL!

No, you do not want me to show 'my' belly. It even makes me turn away lol. But I truly believe that everyone should be proud of who they are or change it. Never let it stop you from doing what you want to do. I've come to terms with a few things that will never change though and I think the belly is one of them. I do love the babies that it carried though especially now that those babies are giving me grandbabies!!
