ON BOOKS ~ The Story of Edgar Sawtelle (again)...

MizB asks you to:
  • Grab your current read.
  • Let the book fall open to a random page.
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page.
  • Share the title of the book the teaser comes from…that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
  • Please avoid spoilers!

From pg. 353 of THE STORY OF EDGAR SAWTELLE by David Wroblewski (fiction)...

"And he stole Off!, that balm of peace and contentment, that ambrosia of the skin. Heavenly, wonderful, miraculous Off!-above all, the Deep Woods variety, whose bitter flavor and greasy viscosity came to signify something as essential as food or water: a day unmauled by deerflies, a night of refuge from the mosquitoes."

I have just finished this book and enjoyed it very much. There were parts that caused a bit of disinterest but the overall effort was a success. Each answer lead to another question - just like in real life.

Pg. 167 Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

"Let me alone. Let me alone," sobbed Catherine. "If I've done wrong, I'm dying for it. It is enough! You left me too-but I won't upbraid you! I forgive you. Forgive me!"

And so the dysfuction and hystrionics continue...

LOL! ah yes...Off! Living in the country, I know only too well what summer nights without it are like.

Glad you enjoyed the book, and you are right--sometimes it pays to stick with it.

Sounds like a bit of fun. Think I'll jump on this meme, although in a couple weeks my teasers will prolly all be from gardening or labyrinth books. Hahaha

Oh that is such a descriptive way to describe someone wearing Off! Thanks for sharing.

LOL...I had forgotten that part of the book. That's a great Ode to Off!

I haven't been sure if I wanted to read this book, but I've been thinking I will add it to my TBRs. The teaser gives me an idea of the writing style!

Hi Bumbles, I'm still in the dark as to whether to try this or not. Like you said, there were so many negative reviews. I was supposed to read this for W for the A to Z challenge but decided to read Virginia Woolf instead. Hm.. maybe next year??

But I'm really glad that you enjoyed it. And that was a great teaser! :D
