ON MOVIES ~ Simply The Best...

Feature Presentation...

MONDAY MOVIE MEME

Molly looked around for a weekly meme about movies and did not have any luck. So therefore she decided to start her own! Andy will play along as well - hopefully you will too. Leave a link to your blog post where you’ve shared your response or, if you don’t have a blog, share your response in the comment section at the end of this post.

This week's movie topic is all about Favorite Oscar Winning Movies...

Well of COURSE we'll give you an Oscar related topic this week! Many moons ago, Molly started buying all of the movies that have ever won the Oscar for Best Picture. She figured it was a pretty safe way to build a quality movie collection. She was right - but all those movies were bought on VHS. Doh! In any event, we did get to see some awesome films and here are what we feel are the best of the Best Pictures from each decade. What are your favorite Best Picture winners?

  • All Quiet On The Western Front (1929/1930)
  • TIE - You Can't Take It With You (1938) & Gone With The Wind (1939)
  • Rebecca (1940)
  • The Bridge On The River Kwai (1957)
  • The Sound Of Music (1965)

Yeah, I've got a ton of stuff on VHS too, although not many Oscar winners it seems. Just posted my list (bizarrely we don't share a single favourite, although to be fair there are a few in your list that I've never actually gotten around to watching).

Who would have been visionary enough to see the VHS going away? Hell, we have probably 200 laser discs! I keep having to buy the players on Ebay every time our current one bites the dust! We bought a machine at Costco to convert VHS to DVD...good investment for us. Anyway, I loved this one. My post is up!

I've never seen The Sting, but I loved Cuckoo's Nest! And I was pleasantly surprised by The Departed.

Where the hell was Jack at the Oscars?

    I played!

We have a bit of overlap.

Platoon was good, but I prefer Deer Hunter in the Vietnam flick genre. I think it's the DeNiro/Streep/Walken thing.
