ON MUSIC ~ Friday the 13th...

TOP 5 ON FRIDAY...

The Music Memoirs asks us to name the Top 5 songs that horrify us (interpret as we see fit). Andy is flying solo on this one today...

1. & 2. "Gimme Shelter" & "Midnight Rambler," both off Let if Bleed. Not that they horrify me because they are bad songs (because they are great), but because they are filled with dark and violent imagery (murder & rape) and are very closely associated with the tragedy at Altamont and the end of the 60s and the Woodstock peace & love nation.
Trivia - what song were they playing when Meredith Hunter was murdered at Altamont?

3. Anything by Kenny G - no explanation needed. Pretty much understood by anybody who likes "good" music.

4. Anything by Limp Bizkit - It horrifies me that they got a record contract, they suck so bad. The only reason I thought of this is because I read recently that they were reuniting and touring again. Who asked them to do this?

5. "Tubular Bells" - Michael Oldfield. Others will probably have this as it is the theme song for the Excorcist. Very spooky.

Trivia answer = "Under My Thumb"

Oh I love Tubular Bells, especially the version performed by Cast In Bronze. And I agree anything by Kenny G or John Tesh is horrifying.

Should probably have included Tubular Bells on mine (I briefly thought about horror movie music but the only thing that came into my head at the time was John Carpenter's music from Halloween). Can't argue with Kenny G either, and didn't even know about the Rolling Stones' songs' associations.

I can answer your trivia question. The Stones were playing Under My Thumb. It gives me chills to even think about. I have the DVD.

I'm up now, too.
