Most people keep china in their dining room hutch.
We keep Molly's collection of shot glasses in there.
Molly collects shot glasses as a memento of all the places she's been. She's not really sure when all of this started since she doesn't actually do shots, but as friends and family saw her growing collection they started bringing back souvenirs for her too. Andy is just happy he didn't have to build the hutch to display them all. Here are a sampling of some of our favorite ones:
#1. Yes - this is from the Vatican. When Molly's folks went on vacation through Europe the only thing Molly asked them to bring back was a shot glass with the Pope on it. Molly's Mom looked everywhere for one but this was the closest she could find.
#2. Andy had a business trip to Minnesota not long after Jesse Ventura took office as Governor so he picked up this gem for political posterity's sake.
#3. Andy brought this one home for Molly from Baltimore where he had been working for several months on business. It was probably Andy's interpretation of Molly's mood while living through that long distance nightmare. It is an accurate representation of that time.
#4. The boyfriend of one of Molly's former co-workers used to travel to Kansas for business trips all the time. He brought back the whole collection of the Wizard of Oz characters one at a time - but this is the best one.
#5. Molly's boss brought this back from one of the many conference reward trips he has taken over the years as a salesman. This is one of the prettiest in our collection. We can only assume Finland is as beautiful in person. Molly never gets to go on these trips herself so lives vicariously through the shot glasses.
#6. While the shot glasses from Europe are generally much smaller than the average U.S. shot glass, shot glasses from Indiana are obviously not. When Molly's brother and his now wife were driving cross country to San Francisco they picked this one up because it was just plain ridiculous. Now it is a prized possession.
#7. Here is one that we actually bought ourselves. This was from our Honeymoon in Kauai, Maui & Oahu and reminds us of the fun, laid back adventures we had for those heavenly few weeks in one of the prettiest spots you could ever hope to see.
#8. This is not one of the prettiest places you could ever hope to see but the food was yummy despite the implication. Molly bought this herself while out and about with a friend in the White Mountain region of New Hampshire while everyone else was skiing.
#9. This one came from a Florida vacation with Molly's family. Lots of time was spent shelling on the sandy ocean beaches so the shot glass selection is very appropriate. Sanibel is a beautiful little spot - just be prepared to stay for a while since the toll for the bridge to get there is highway robbery.
#10. Molly's brother and his wife gave us this neat one of the NYC subway map for Christmas which they bought, appropriately enough, from a kiosk in a subway station. Our sister-in-law is from NYC and thought this was more useful than a shot glass with a picture of the Statue of Liberty.
#11. Molly's family is from North Carolina, just like Andy Griffith, so her folks picked this one up to represent her roots on a recent visit back for a wedding which happened to take place in Andy Griffith's hometown. Makes you want to whistle, doesn't it?
#12. When Molly lived in Cleveland as a little girl the Rock & Roll HOF didn't exist. If it had, maybe she would have stayed longer. Instead, our friends took a vacation to Cleveland to see the R&R HOF and ride some roller coasters at Cedar Point. They brought us back this shot glass from the R&R HOF which has an image of the insert you used to have to put in your 45's to get them to fit on your record player.
#13. You didn't think we would do this without a shout out to the Red Sox did you? Don't hate us because we're beautiful - the first championship is always the sweetest. So we bought this to commemorate that celebration and hope to use it again this year.
