1. Cell Phones - we actually talked in person to each other and if there was an emergency we used a pay phone
2. The Internet - we had to go to the library to look things up - in books
3. E-mail/IM/Texting - we wrote letters to people to let them know how things were going
4. Wii/Madden/PS2 - we thought that Pong was incredible
5. Remote Controls - there used to be knobs on TV's for changing channels and our job in the family was to get up and turn them
6. Helmets - our hair flew in the breeze as we went headfirst over the handlebars
7. Play Dates - we just showed up at our neighbors' doors and asked if they could come out and play
8. Digital Cameras - we had Polaroids that spit out an instant picture which you could see after you shook the film dry in your hand for a few minutes
9. Cordless Phones - while on longer conversations we used to wrap ourselves up in the cord that connected the ear piece to the cradle
10.Minivans - we fought to sit in the back of the wood paneled station wagon without seatbelts and made funny faces at the car stuck at the light behind us
11.Constant Supervision - we were sent outside in the summer after breakfast and told not to come back in until we could see the fireflies
12.Jonas Brothers Concerts - there was no way our parents were going to pay good money to bring pre-teens to see Donny & Marie, The Jackson Five, or Sean Cassidy
13.HDTV/DVR/On Demand - we had to wait until Saturday mornings to watch cartoons on grainy little TV screens
2. The Internet - we had to go to the library to look things up - in books

#11
I wish I could let my kids have this freedom. It's so sad that I can't, more so now that we're in the city.
Happy T13!
Here Fricking HERE!
Happy TT,
Oh, so true! But I think things are better today, except for #11.
Wow, I actually remember my parents telling me a lot of these things, and sitting in cars with out seat belts, I would stay outside from breakfast until I heard my name yelled at night, with the exception of lunch, which was a random friends parents house kind of thing!
Happy TT!
You are too funny! Hey, I was all about Pong! (Atari too.) And way back in the olden days, I was the remote control for my dad! Never mind that the antennae would get frozen in one direction and I had to go out and whack on it to get it to move. That is why people had kids back then!
Isn't amazing how we all survived without any of these "necessities?" Great list!
Yep... we're getting old. #7 drives me nuts. There are tons of kids in this neighborhood, I shouldn't have to schedule their playdates into Lotus. They should just go outside and play.
Yep, boy I feel old, but happy TT anyway.
The thing about the cell phone freaks me out a little. I was in Serbia, supposed to meet a friend who lives there. I got off the train and my cell phone didn't work on their network. I scrambled around for a pay phone, only to find they don't really work anymore, so I was stuck.
A similar thing has happened here in the US where my phone is dead, I have a flat tire, and none of the GD phones work even if I could find the GD quarters to put in them.
And heaven forbid you ask someone to use their phone.
I miss the days of rambling around the woods aimlessly. Just be back by dark, that was the only rule back then.
LOVE this list ;-)
LOL! Us, too! Buy I gotta admit, I love all of those things! And would totlaly have loved them as a kid!
*hugs*

Had I had a cell as a kid, my parents would've never gotten me off. :) But when I was a kid, cell phones were those 1980 monster things. :)
Hey, you couldn't possibly be old enough to actually remember any of these! (LOL) But I sure do. As for #11, well, we did get to come back for lunch (smile). Well done.
#7 - I miss just going to visit folks on a whim!
I did fine without most of those, too, but I'd hate to have to miss on them now.
Great list. Hard to believe we survived without some of them, although glad I got a childhood where I had the freedom to wander about outside as I wished.
Our TV just had buttons for selecting channels (back then there were so few channels that we only needed three). Walking back and forth to the set was how I used to get all my exercise (I get it now by walking round looking for the remote).
I am not playing T12 today but this list is very interesting.
I know I do appreciate my mobile(cell phone) for the safety aspects though and I couldn't live without my internet ...then How would have I met so many delightful friends like you.
I love my digital camera too so I can 500 photos ...and only 10 or so might be good enough ;)
I love this. Thanks for the memories, Bumbles!! Muaaaaah!
I'm up at both EW, with13 Love Spells and Thornesworld with13 Ally Graphics
Well, I can live without some of these, but you gotta admit, the internet does make live a lot easier! =)
Too true! We really don't need most of these but some are just too good NOT to have.
