ON MOVIES ~ Soundtracks of our Life...

Feature Presentation...

MONDAY MOVIE MEME

Molly looked around for a weekly meme about movies and did not have any luck. So therefore she decided to start her own! Andy will play along as well - hopefully you will too. Leave a link to your blog post where you’ve shared your response or, if you don’t have a blog, share your response in the comment section at the end of this post.

This week's movie topic is all about Soundtracks...

We watched Dog Day Afternoon a few weekends ago and it dawned on me as we watched that other than Elton John's "Amoreena" in the opening scene, there is not another note of music during the entire film. Not much of a soundtrack opportunity there. Typically, music plays such an important role in movies. Itzhak Perlman's haunting violin lives in the background of Schindler's List seamlessly setting the tone, whereas the ominous notes in Jaws jump right out to signal the villian. Songs carefully chosen for their lyrics or their tone can boost a scene too. These days, it seems the songs off of the soundtrack albums are more successful than the movies they appear in. Here are some of our favorite soundtrack albums - and we happen to think the movies were pretty entertaining too. What about you?

The first soundtrack I ever owned was Dirty Dancing. Now my kids LOVE Mama Mia from the movie.

Will second the Graduate, I think I liked the soundtrack more than the movie!

Also, loved the soundtrack to Goodfellas.

Good choices (especially The Graduate, Star Wars, and The Big Chill; all of which I might have put on my list if I'd not already seen them on yours).

My list's up now.

Love your list! As usual, I tried to stay away from yours, and come up with some of my own. I avoided the musicals, simply because the music IS the movie. I stuck with the soundtracks that enhance...my post is up!

It was hard to limit myself to a shorter list. I wanted to add so many more than I did. Great topic this week! My response is posted.
