ON FUN ~ Happy 4th from Massachusetts...

Boston is home to the famous Pops orchestra performing on the Charles River Esplanade while half a million people gather to hear the concert of patriotic songs and guest performers before settling in for a spectacular fireworks show to finish off the 4th of July. It is a lot of fun, but also a lot of trouble. People reserve their spot and wait patiently from the crack of dawn. Traffic gets snarled as major roadways are shut down. Sometimes the best way is to find a friend with a roofdeck and a view and listen to the music via radio. But there are lots of other ways that the communities around Boston celebrate the country's independence. Here is a snapshot of how we spent the holiday weekend:

Barbeque:

Parade:

Sparklers:

Fireworks:

Oh what I would not give for a good hot dog! BBQ in the south means roasting a pig!

We grilled hotdogs and burgers, along with some kufta (basically a burger shaped like a sausage but made from a mixture of ground beef and lamb) thrown on for good measure. I made potato, macaroni, and pasta salads, corn on the cob, a pickle tray, and deviled eggs.

What kind of salad is in the photo? It looks like something the Amazing Egyptian Dude and I would like very much!
