ON MOVIES ~ Game On...

Feature Presentation...

MONDAY MOVIE MEME
Molly looked around for a weekly meme about movies and did not have any luck. So therefore she decided to start her own! Andy will play along as well - hopefully you will too. Go to your blog and create your own post on the topic, linking back to us in your post, then come back and leave a link to your post here in our Comments section. If you don’t have a blog, just share your response in the Comments section.

This week's movie topic is all about Sports...

Way back in the beginning of the Monday Movie Meme's existence, we covered the Sports topic. Since no one was paying attention back then, we figured it wouldn't hurt to do a repeat. Over the holiday weekend, we took in the Winter Classic outdoor NHL game at Fenway on New Year's Day. We watched college bowl games. We revelled in the final week of the NFL, especially for our Fantasy Football teams. And we can't wait for the Olympics to begin in another month. So therefore - sports. Here are some of our favorite movies to cover various sporting games, teams and events. Share on your blog those movies that address the wide world of sports and link back here at The Bumbles. And don't forget to visit your fellow participants!

  • Bull Durham (1988) - Molly's Baseball Pick...the sport was never so sexy, so funny, and so true - especially when Kevin Costner & Susan Sarandon portray it
  • A League of Their Own (1992) - Andy's Baseball Pick...chicks dig the long ball, especially when they're the ones knocking it out of the park - thanks to Geena Davis
  • Slapshot (1977) - Andy's Hockey Pick...one of Paul Newman's favorite roles - who doesn't love Reg & the Hanson brothers?
  • Youngblood (1986) - Molly's Hockey Pick...utter cheese, overlooked due to hunkiness of Rob Lowe & Patrick Swayze
  • Wildcats (1986) - Unanimous Football Pick...Goldie Hawn in a crowd pleaser for all ages
  • Miracle (2004) - Unanimous Olympics Pick...Do you believe in miracles?!?!? Watch Kurt Russell's performance to capture the essence of Olympic spirit
  • Kingpin (1996) - Molly's Wild Card Pick (i.e. non-major U.S. sport - golf, boxing, soccer, running, auto racing, horse racing, bowling, pool, swimming, cycling, fishing, etc.)...Hilarity via the Farrelly Bros., Woody Harrelson, Bill Murray and of course, Randy Quaid - the Amish and bowling never worked so well together!
  • Talladega Nights (2006) - Andy's Wild Card Pick (i.e. non-major U.S. sport - golf, boxing, soccer, running, auto racing, horse racing, bowling, pool, swimming, cycling, fishing, etc.)...Spoofing NASCAR was never so easy - thanks to Will Ferrell
  • **NOTICE WE SKIPPED BASKETBALL? NEITHER OF US HAVE EVER SEEN HOOSIERS, AND COULDN'T THINK OF ANY OTHER BASKETBALL THEMED MOVIE WE'D SEEN! BUT IF YOU'RE A BASKETBALL FAN - READ "THE ASSIST" - TERRIFIC BOOK.***

A League of Their Own and Youngblood could have easily been on my list. I did an Olympic list and Miracle made it. I love Hoosiers and another good basketball movie is Glory Road.

Field of dreams was about my favorite sports movie, even though it is total fiction. I am also a fan of Remember the Titans.

I think one of the best has to be Hoosiers. Great topic!

Great selections! You know, I have never seen "Kingpin" or "The Big Lebowski"- the big bowling movies :) But I do love Miracle, Ricky Bobby, and Youngblood (RIP Patrick Swayze).

Impressive. I hadn't thought of Bull Durham (in fact I could only think of that football movie in which Denzel Washington is the coach of a high school team...) I am too lame at movies! Thank goodness you aren't!!

A League of Their Choice! I remember I was a young girl when it came out, and I went to the movies a few times to view it. It was and is magical! My response is HERE.
