ON MOVIES ~ Monster Mash...

Feature Presentation...
MONDAY MOVIE MEME

Molly looked around for a weekly meme about movies and did not have any luck. So therefore she decided to start her own! Andy will play along as well - hopefully you will too. Go to your blog and create your own post on the topic, linking back to us in your post, then come back and leave a link to your post here in our Comments section. If you don’t have a blog, just share your response in the Comments section.

This week's movie topic is all about Monsters...

As Patriots fans, we suffered a monstrous playoff loss this weekend. No more Super Bowl dreams for our team. Monstrous implies huge, scary, ugly. But monsters often get a bad rap. Sometimes, in the movies at least, they are just misunderstood. Here are some of our favorite movie monsters - with both good and bad agendas. Share on your blog those monstrous figures from films that make you smile or cower and link back here at The Bumbles. And don't forget to visit your fellow participants!

  • Shrek, Shrek (2001) - Ogres get a bad rap. But thanks to a chatterbox donkey, this one came out of his shell and showed how his crusty exterior hid the mushy monster of love inside.
  • Mothra, Godzilla vs. Mothra (1964) - My little brother had a Godzilla doll whose red eyes lit up and he roared when you moved his arms. This was quite annoying so I often wished for my own Mothra to take him down (the toy, not my brother).
  • Freddy Krueger, A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) - I shudder with the leather face, sweater wearing, blade fingered image of Freddy in my head every time I go near the furnace.
  • Amon Goeth, Schindler's List (1993) - Ralph Fiennes' portrayal of the Nazi death camp commandant is what I think of when I think of monstrous evil personified. I read somewhere that he struggled emotionally during and after his role here.
  • Abominable Snowman aka "The Bumble", Rudloph the Red Nosed Reindeer (1964) - A monster who truly evolves - from terrorizing the North Pole to being a humble bumble who places the star on the top of Santa's Christmas tree. There's a lesson in there - but we just think he's cute.

Well, the first thing that jumped to mind was "Monsters, Inc." I think everyone loves Sully, but his fur seems so soft. You know how it gently moves in the wind when he walks around? It seems like it would be so soft.

Now Waternoose always scares the shet out of me. I don't like how he looks, he's evil, of course, and he has those crazy legs and all of those eyes. Yuck.

Damn. I can't believe I didn't think of Sully. I was focusing on icky monsters. Well, I was sort of in a hurry, because in order to get my 7 hours of sleep for the Game On Diet, I had to get to bed by 10pm! Anyway, here is mine:

You definitely covered a wide range of monsters! I was going to comment that I'm not that into monster movies, because there are too many real live human monsters out there who give me nightmares. And then you go and mention one of the ones that came to mind...Amon Goeth. I have never been able to watch a movie with Ralph Fiennes in it since seeing him in that role. I can see why he struggled emotionally. That would have been enough to put me in the looney bin.

I loved Monsters, Inc. and Shrek though. Those are my kind of monsters!

    My first Movie Meme!

Once you start thinking of great monsters you can't stop! Still popping new oones (or old ones) into my head. Is it always like that with the movie meme? :-o

My list would have gone on for pages and pages! I managed to keep it pretty short, and didn't duplicate any of yours. Amon Goeth was an inspired choice.

    Mine is here: http://www.endomental.com/2010/01/monday-movie-meme_11.html

Normally I don't care for scary movies which usually includes monsters. But when I think of those designed for children, that's different. I loved Monsters, Inc. and, of course, the Bumbles.

Great Movies! I'm especially happy to see Godzilla v Mothra on there!

Don't forget "Them!" the first and greatest of the "giant insects mutated-by-nuclear-experiements" movies.

    It's a fairly narrow genre, I confess. :)

I hate monster movies generally, but Monsters Inc. was cute. As for the "Humble Bumble", well...geez!

    Very good choices; especially Godzilla!

My choice might be a bit different. Decide for yourself HERE.
