On New Year's Day, we Bumbles ventured out into Boston on a cool, but clear, day to take in some old fashioned pond hockey. Except this pond was pretty spiffy, and it was located inside our favorite place on earth...Fenway Park. The nostalgic ballpark played host to the NHL's Winter Classic tradition, with the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers playing hockey on an outdoor rink. It was the hottest ticket in town, and the coolest place to be that day. We met some Flyers fans walking in carrying the above handmade sign and knew it was destiny for us to be there! Here are some snapshots from our experience...
Baseball's Yawkey Way overrun by hockey fans
A nice welcome
Woah!
Warmups
So cute in their touques
A packed house
Old school pomp & circumstance
Unfurling from on top of the Green Monster
Monster flags
A performance from the Drop Kick Murphys
Rockets' red glare - bursting in air
Bursting with excitement
Future heroes of the game
Game on
First Classic fight
Benches
Nice perch
Back to the game

B's on their way to a game winning goal
Good game, good game, good game
Thank you to our Fenway angels for providing us with tickets to an incredible way to ring in the New Year

Very cool! What a great way to start the year.
Oh, I need to email you but I'm always forgetting. We should red War & Peace together. I might need moral support to get me through :)
Those are awesome pictures! By the time I got the end though, my toes were cold just thinking about you sitting there for the enire game! We are hoping to get to a Tampa Bay Lightning game soon. We go every year, and through some connections, get the free food and are sitting in the front row on the glass. (Note to self after last year...don't put cup of wine on that ledge!) But we don't get the Dropkick Murphys!
WOW...those photos are awesome. I could not imagine sitting out in Fenway this time of year, but then I couldn't imagine being at a Patriots Game in winter here either...LOL
Fantastic pictures. Your new camera is just the right thing for you. I liked this photo essay. It felt like I was right there with you.
Wonderful photos Molly. Looks like you and Andy had a wonderful time. Wishing you a picture perfect day!
looks like you had a great time. great pictures too.
I love the fact that you used the word "tukes" in your entry. However, as a 'touque" wearing Canadian I must correct you on your spelling. :-)
What a great way to see hockey being played! We have our Sharks here in SJ and they play in a high tech arena. I always think it is a bit weird for them to be in such a warm place as this but we do have some very loyal fans!
soooo jealous!
Its nice to see the second best stadium in baseball filled with hockey fans.....great photos!
SO RAD!! Missed the game beccause we were driving back from NJ :(
I am so jealous that you got to attend the winter classic in person! I wanted to go to the game last New Year's Day, but tickets were hard to come by.
Awesome pics, by the way!
Great to see that my sign has made it into imfamy on the internet.... Spent several days making if for the Winter Classic. Going again this year, but no sign this time.
Have a great time Brian! Perhaps this year you'll get to see a victory from your team. You really should make another sign though - that one was awesome!!!
Do you have a digital copy of my "Green Monster" sign you could send my way? Had a hard drive crash and lost EVERYTHING!
Thanks
Brian
Sure thing. Get me your email address and I'll forward along. Happy New Year!
