Molly looked around for a weekly meme about movies and did not have any luck. So therefore she decided to start her own! Andy will play along as well - hopefully you will too. This week's movie topic is all about Winter...
Since we could only think of a handful of movies about the Olympics, we decided to focus on the Winter theme instead. Those of you in the mid-Atlantic, or Dallas for that matter, are probably really annoyed with Old Man Winter right about now. So you know how we generally feel for half of the year here in the Northeast. Thank you for taking the brunt of the storms instead of us. Here are some movies featuring Winter scenes and themes that we came up with. Fargo (1996) - The Coen Brothers direct an incredible cast in this caper gone very wrong - with blood spattered snow thanks to a darkly humorous but grisly woodchipper sceneMisery (1990) - Rob Reiner directs Stephen King's story of how being snow bound can turn disastrous when your "biggest fan" holds you captive - with a sledgehammer The Shining (1980) - King didn't like Kubrick's version of his tale, but the snowy hedge maze is chillingThe Thing (1982) - John Carpenter's look at paranoia in the Antartic fueled by some shape shifting evil Wow - I guess Winter doesn't leave us all that warm and fuzzy, does it?! I didn't care for Kubrick's version either, because I had already read the book. While the hedge was "interesting", it in no way came close to the creeping-ever-closer animal topiaries in the book. REDRUM!
I would have added 'Into the Wild' to the list. Very disturbing, but beautiful movie.

How funny...when I saw your topic today the first movie that popped in my head was The Shining. Guess that's what happens when you are a scary movie fan! lol

We had a match in The Shining. Fargo and Misery were great choices! I don't think I've seen the newer version of The Thing.
