ON PHOTOS ~ America's Best Idea...

See those photos of Mother Nature's finest work? They were taken from a U.S. National Park. The same park, two different settings, equally stunning views. If you have watched Ken Burns' latest PBS Special - America's Best Idea - then you know how our National Park system came to be and how lucky we are to have them.

In our travels we have often found ourselves in National Parks, State Parks and Landmarks. Sometimes we happen upon them accidentally, other times it is planned. We have seen Acadia in Maine, Yosemite in California, Olympic in Washington, USVI in St. John and Haleakala in Hawaii. The above photos were from our honeymoon in Maui about 7 years ago. That's where you will find the dormant Haleakala crater as well as the so-called "Seven Sacred Pools" which spill out into the Pacific.

If you would like to seek out the National Park system, you can get a quick overview of each of them by visiting UpTake's Attractions Blog. They have just pushed out summary posts on all of them - and Molly was lucky enough to be able to provide three of them - WA, USVI and HI. For more inspiration check out the PBS special. America might let a lot of great ideas get lost in government bureaucracy, but the National Parks system is one thing that they got very, very right.

These pictures are gorgeous. You're right, the state parks provide some of the most breath taking views.

Whoa. Pretty. Almost makes me want to rethink my "NO CAMPING EVER" policy. Almost. While I do hate "roughing it," you did a good job of making me like nature a bit more than I usually do.

The park system is definitely a great idea. I hope that I can see some more of them in the future.

I'm so glad they formed the US National Parks system so we have this beauty to inspire us for years to come. I love visiting the various parks and have so many on my list that I will visit in the future!

Love the idea of the state parks, and have been fortunate to see a few.

Did you see the country's smallest state park while you were in Provi?

We love National Parks too but the two you showed are two we have never seen. They look so beautiful.
