Molly looked around for a weekly meme about movies and did not have any luck. So therefore she decided to start her own! Andy will play along as well - hopefully you will too. This week's movie topic is all about Narrators...
As a big reader, I follow lots of book bloggers and have noticed how many of them listen to audio books. Sometimes it is to help them get through the books they need to review more quickly. But a lot of the time it is because the narrators are so incredible in bringing the stories alive. If Morgan Freeman does audio books I need to know about it. He is a gifted actor, beloved for his many roles on film. But now he has also taken over the role of "go-to guy" when you need someone to narrate a movie. That's because he has that wonderful voice. Here are some of our favorite narrated films - including one by Mr. Freeman, of course. Little Children was such a disturbing film. Very well done and thought provoking, but "troubling" is the perfect word for it.
I hear Jean Shepherd's voice so often every Christmas it's as familiar as an old friend's. Great choice.
March of the Penguins is a great movie! MF really does have a great voice for narration.

I agree wholeheartedly with your thoughts on Morgan Freeman. Was there a voice ever more suited for narration? And Jean Shepherd as narrator gave 'A Christmas Story' such authenticity.
My first thought was Robert Redford in 'A River Runs Through It'. That movie is near and dear our hearts as it reminds us of our boys and their relationship. We can't watch it without sobbing. The best quote is at the end when the older Norman is fishing.
"Like many fly fishermen in western Montana where the summer days are almost Arctic in length, I often do not start fishing until the cool of the evening. Then in the Arctic half-light of the canyon, all existence fades to a being with my soul and memories and the sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a four-count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise. Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of those rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.
Morgan Freeman is THE MAN. I had to bring up Shawshank Redemption (AGAIN) because he just rocks in that role. Here is my list:

I can't think of any films that were narrated. Typically I don't like films like that so avoid them.

I am so with you on Christmas Story (I love Jean Shepard's voice...he also narrates the Carousel of Progress at Disney World!) and Stand By Me. I'd have to add Charlotte's Web (Rex Allen) and whoever narrates Babe to my list.
It has been officially declared in this house that Morgan Freeman has the best Voice since James Earl Jones. And The Shawshank Redemption is the Best Movie (so I second Sandy).
Ditto to March of the Penguins and Shawshank Redemption, I think he also did the narration on War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise.
I liked Jude Law narrating Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events!
