ON MOVIES ~ Fiscal Fix for Flix...

Feature Presentation...
MONDAY MOVIE MEME

Molly looked around for a weekly meme about movies and did not have any luck. So therefore she decided to start her own! Andy will play along as well - hopefully you will too. Go to your blog and create your own post on the topic, linking back to us in your post, then come back and leave a link to your post here in our Comments section. If you don’t have a blog, just share your response in the Comments section.

This week's movie topic is all about Your Movie Budget...

Boy, when the market takes a dive it gets you focused on your budget, doesn't it? We're pretty realistic when making our budget - being sure to allocate some funds for fun. How we use those few bucks though is a tough choice. Sometimes it is for a dinner out. Or a weekend getaway. But usually it goes towards the Netflix bill and a show here and there for Concert Boy.

We don't use our movie funds for actually going to the movies anymore. We prefer the convenience of Netflix. We make our own snacks, save on gas, and can watch a bunch at a time for minimal expense. Life without Netflix would be very sad, but we could certainly find a way to get by on library movie rentals if our budget needs tightening. We do have a small collection of favorite DVD's and old VHS tapes. The cable that we pay for each month offers many free on demand options. And there's always the idea of sharing a movie rental subscription with a neighbor.

Share on your blog how you budget for your movie fix and any ways that you save or splurge. Link back here at The Bumbles and don't forget to visit your fellow participants!

Do you have a topic to suggest to the Monday Movie Meme? Or would you like to guest host? Let us know in the Comments section or send us an e-mail.

I played but I must warn you -- I'm not especially fascinating this week.

I'm sorry, I didn't play. I posted my review of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo that I saw last night. I couldn't help it. Plus, like The Gal, I don't think I'd be very interesting. We do Netflix. I take the kids to movies when it is raining and we are bored. And like once a year, I go see an adult movie at the theater. Like I did last night.

We're lucky if we make to the theatre a couple of times a year. I just recently joined Netflix and love it! Don't know why it took me so long. I just watched Doubt (great movie) and next up is Away We Go. I've been watching some really diverse stuff that I normally wouldn't rent or go see in the theatre.

I agree with you--stay home and enjoy. I do splurge occassionaly for a film I really want to see and then it's like a family reunion. We buy about 20 tickets and use up a whole row.

My god, am I the only one who goes to the real theater anymore? Actually, we go during the week, in the afternoon and get senior/matinee prices and it's usually our own private screening.

I still love the big screen - the thing that's as big as a wall. There is absolutely nothing like it. What is the future going to be like if everyone watches movies at home? Will the theaters all close up?

By the way, Susan: Away We Go was one of my favorite movies of last year. I loved the music and the actors plus the plot. (Saw it on the big screen.)

It is sad that movies have gotten so expensive! I rarely go to the theater any more because I just don't have time but I guess I save the money too. I live for Netflix and supplement with DVDs from my library on a regular basis.

I use Blockbuster. My township actually still has a STORE so I have unlimited in-store exchange for the mailed films. I had the perfect get up going for about two years: Here it is:

I pay for two mailed films out at a time. Get them, watch them, take them to the store..get two more films from the store. As soon as the mailed in films are checked in the system-WA-LA..I have two more in my mailbox giving me 4 movies out at once.

Hubs and I are HUGE movie buffs so we can go through some films. Sorry to say Mr. Blockbuster caught onto my evil doing's and now they monitor mail in/in store exchange...so I am stuck. With just two. It's killing me.

Now I just rent them or hope like hell that my brudder purchased them and just borrow.

:)
