ON FUN ~ Lights Out...
So this is what I did instead of writing a new post. Power outages can be blessings in disguise. Reading by candlelight (scented candlelight at that) is quite nice. Though I would have appreciated having batteries in the radio to hear the Sox game. The lights came back on just before lights out. It also struck me as quite humorous that I sat in the dark in June reading Faulkner's "Light In August."

Reading by candlelight? Takes me back to when we did it with flash lights as kids.
Perfect choice for reading by candlelight!
When my kids were young, we lived where we had a rural electric co-op and every time the wind blew the power went off. One of the games we always played was "Name the States and Capitols". I always won. I am a ruthless competitor.
I keep saying I want to do an electricity-free night once a month, but it never works out. Maybe we need more power outages...?
So are you enjoying Light in August? I gotta say, I have such a hard time following Faulkner. You are a better woman than I :)
This reminds me of when I lived in the VAC and we had a power outage that lasted for three days. I read Lucky by Alice Sebold by candlelight and flashlight. That felt really decadent.
I also remembering taking my flashlight and going down the hallways making ghost sounds. ;)
very cool... i love power outages as long as they only last five seconds!
I gave birth to my 4th child during a statewide power outage. We entertained the older children (prior to my departure for the hospital) by pretending we were on a campout. We lit a coleman lantern and gathered in the living room, played games and told stories until it was time for bed. I prayed pretty hard for the power to come on before I got to the hospital--but apparently they had a back-up system. I can't remember how long it was out.
Did you "borrow" this image or no 'cause I want to know what that gorgeous bookmark is?!
I love power outages! Sometimes we light candles and play board games.
