ON MOVIES ~ Stormy Weather...

Feature Presentation...
MONDAY MOVIE MEME

Molly looked around for a weekly meme about movies and did not have any luck. So therefore she decided to start her own! Andy will play along as well - hopefully you will too. Go to your blog and create your own post on the topic, linking back to us in your post, then come back and leave a link to your post here in our Comments section. If you don’t have a blog, just share your response in the Comments section.

This week's movie topic is all about Storms...

New England dodged the bullet formerly known as Hurricane Earl this weekend. Other spots weren't as lucky. Better to be prepared for nothing than surprised by the worst. All this non-stop storm coverage got us to thinking about movies featuring stormy weather. Here are some we thought of with storms playing a role in plot development, if not complete characters of their own. Share on your blog movies featuring storms big and small, linking back here at The Bumbles. And don't forget to visit your fellow participants!
  • The Perfect Storm (2000) - This movie basically reiterates why you never mess with Mother Nature. Fictionalized storyline featuring George Clooney and Marky Mark about what happened to real Gloucester fishermen who were lost at sea during a massive Nor'easter.
  • The Wizard of Oz (1939) - The tornado that swept away Dorothy and her little dog too always scared me way more than the flying monkeys.
  • Cape Fear (1991) - I haven't seen the original. I'm not sure that I want to. After watching Robert De Niro absolutely terrorize my heart while dragging himself onto the boat during a rocky storm to confront the family he wishes to harm, I think I've seen enough thank you very much.
  • So I Married An Axe Murderer (1993) - Mike Myers always makes me laugh. Afraid of commitment, he creates some climactic paranoia for himself when a terrible storm traps him at an inn on his honeymoon with his wife who may or may not be an axe murderer.
  • Poltergeist (1982) - This movie taught me to count between the lightening and the thunder to tell if the storm was getting closer or moving away. That was the only helpful part. Everything else scared the crap out of me.
Do you have a topic to suggest to the Monday Movie Meme? Or would you like to guest host? Let us know in the Comments section or send us an e-mail.

Favorite storm movie...a tie between sweet home alabama and where the heart is.

I guess The Wizard of Oz is the ultimate storm movie, isn't it? I managed to come up with two others, though.

PS And I'm forever fascinated and creeped out by that scene early on The Perfect Storm with the shark.

I love The Perfect Storm, even though it makes me cry every time I see it. And, of course, The Wizard of Oz, because there wouldn't be a story without the storm. The only one I could think of that you didn't mention was Twister.

I enjoyed this one, and didn't even get mad when you took the two best ones! Here are mine:

I still see George Clooney's face as he shoves I-forget-who out of the boat right before it goes down.
And Poltergeist? Scared the bejeezus out of me (to this day, tv static makes my skin crawl)!

Wizard of Oz is a great choice! I'll have to watch The Perfect Storm again. I honestly don't remember much. I don't even remember the storm at all from Poltergeist...or Cape Fear, though I've seen them both. Funny what stays with you.

The Perfect Storm was such a hard movie to watch knowing what the outcome was.

my first thought was "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone", the part where Hagrid comes to get Harry from the island.

I also thought of "Message in a Bottle". so sad :(

I was out of town so I didn't get a post today.

I thought of another one--"The Cay" (1974). Loved the Book and the Movie was good too.

Ooo a hard one.

I would only add Jurrasic Park - trapped on a malfunctioning island with Dinosaurs as a storm closes in. Those raptors still send chills down my spine (though on a side note it has now been discovered Velocoraptors had feathers! not nearly as scary).

Oh and Twister, which briefly had me facinated with storm chasing!

I really should start doing posts on my blog again for this meme. It's on the to do list lol

Too much company this weekend to play along, but I loved So I Married An Ane Murderer. Can't get that beat song from the open mike night out of my head for days when I watch it.

Fantastic topic! I'm sorry I missed participating in this week's meme :o(
The Perfect Storm is a very good movie, but very sad. I loved Cape Fear, the original & the re-make, soooo creepy! Poltergeist is a brilliant pick, too. I'm not sure I would have thought of it!
