ON MOVIES ~ Trimming The Fat...

Feature Presentation...
MONDAY MOVIE MEME

Molly looked around for a weekly meme about movies and did not have any luck. So therefore she decided to start her own! Andy will play along as well - hopefully you will too. Go to your blog and create your own post on the topic, linking back to us in your post, then come back and leave a link to your post here in our Comments section. If you don’t have a blog, just share your response in the Comments section.

This week's movie topic is all about Weight...

While Andy was off skiing in Vermont for guys' weekend, I attended our niece's 1st birthday party and pigged out. There were tons of kids and presents, laughs and love. And also quite a yummy spread of food. I enjoyed it all but was quite partial to the brownies with cookies baked right in. So as I was loosening my belt waiting for Andy to find his way home, I got to thinking about movie characters battling a weight issue. Here are a few that sprung to mind. Share on your blog movies featuring those who want to lose or need to gain extra pounds, linking back here for others to see. And don't forget to visit your fellow participants!
  • Dreamgirls (2006) - Before Jennifer Hudson found her new figure in real life, she played the bold, bodacious and gifted Effie White whose full figure kept her talented voice from being front and center where it belonged in the musical girl group she helped to found.
  • The Nutty Professor (1996) - Professor Sherman Klump's obsession with weight loss leads to a whole mess of entertaining chaos thanks to Eddie Murphy's talents.
  • Shallow Hal (2001) - Jack Black's character Hal gets hypnotized to see only inner beauty and therefore experiences the joy of true love with obese Rosemary while the rest of his world can't understand why he's not still shallow.

Do you have a topic to suggest to the Monday Movie Meme? Or would you like to guest host? Let us know in the Comments section or send us an e-mail.

Oh, poor Effie! "I'm staying, and you're gonna love me!" That girl broke my heart.

I have three choices. Even though as I shared them, I felt guilty because I ate chocolate but didn't work out today.

Not sure if "Hairspray" would qualify; I think the lead character is ostracized for being heavy.

Good choices, Molly! The only one that comes to mind here is "Fatso" with Dom DeLuise and Anne Bancroft. I'll give you one guess who played the title character. :)

I added a skinny movie as well as two fat movies, but had a tough time coming up with very many!

Didn't Jennifer Hudson look amazing at the Oscars? I wish I had that kind of willpower!

But anyway, I would add Georgy Girl

Great explanation for how you came up with this topic, sounds like a fun party!
Happy Birthday to you niece! I'm sure she's adorable!
Do you have arecipe for brownies with cookies inside?!

I haven't seen the movies on your list although I've heard good things about Dreamgirls. My brain wasn't working very well this morning so my list is short & kind of obvious. I'm hoping to add to it throughout the day!

I enjoyed some sunday sweets last night too and ended up with a bit of a sugar headache . . . that stuff is not good for me. Kaye—the road goes ever ever on

I've yet to see Dreamgirls but have heard it is quite entertaining. If this meme was about books I would offer Stephen King's Thinner up as an example. Maybe they made a movie of that?

Great topic and answers! My choice(s) are HERE.

Sounds like you had a fun time at the party. Hope you spent lots of time with your niece :)

You covered some major players in the weight game by naming Shallow Hal and The Nutty Professor.

I refused to watch The Nutty Professor when it came out and continued to avoid that movie, for reasons of my own.

However,

I plan on checking out Shallow Hal. I may be coming up on my list of rentals.
