1. GoodReads - An awesome online community for voracious readers to discuss, keep track of, review and refer books of all kinds 2. Amazon - Their automatic recommendations and "other customers liked" based on your book purchases or browsing history lead you from one to another to another to another - like Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon 3. Librarian's Choice Shelf - Our library has a great section of shelves filled with all kinds of suggestions from the librarians 4. Oprah's Book Club - Oprah catches a lot of crap out there but I give her nothing but credit for creating her Book Club and introducing reading to many people who wouldn't have otherwise and for introducing me to some titles I might not have considered on my own 5. My Mom - Whenever I am stuck for something my mom can always rattle off a good 5 or 10 titles for me to check out. If she hasn't been happy with anything from her own shelves lately she'll pull a few from Dad's. His aren't usually my taste though. Mom always gets it right. 6. Our Friends - I always peek at our friends' book jackets to see what world they are following through reading. Some belong to book clubs and others just make their own way. 7. Book Clubs - I don't belong to any "face-to-face" (or REAL LIFE as I call them) book clubs. But I have just started joining a few on GoodReads and am curious to see how I like it. Even if I don't turn out to be active in the discussions at least the reading lists will boost my to read pile. 8. Book Stores - I usually only go into actual book stores, like Barnes & Noble, at Christmas time to buy gifts (I always try to pick up books for all the nieces & nephews at a minimum) because I don't want to go broke buying up all of the intriguing books laid out begging me to take them home. I write down the titles instead of buying on the spot. 9. Newspaper Reviews - I read the Boston Globe online but now and then I do enjoy spending an afternoon with the Sunday Globe in hardcopy splayed out on the family room floor and sometimes I come across some interesting book reviews. 12. Classics - Every year I try to go back and either re-read a book from the "classic" genre that I read when I was much too young or too busy to appreciate the first go 'round or pick up one that I cannot believe I haven't read yet. It makes me feel smart ;-) |

Gosh, it's exciting that you are so interested in books. So many people only read on the internet.
Good Reads is a favorite of my daughter. Great resources!
I love Good Reads. I'd be thrilled to have you read one of my books. They are all listed on the side bar of my blog. Let me know if you're interested. Happy Holidays!
OOooh...awesome!!!
Thanks for all the links :)
I find that Amazon's recommendations can be very helpful, if a bit repetitive. I have often ordered books on impulse after reading their recommendations.
Excellent sources for recommendations! Actually, I did post 13 book reviews today. Perhaps there's something there you might like?
The book in itself is the wrong place for me to spend alot of time. My list is always too long! Happy TT!
I wish I had more time to read. Sounds like some nice ones you listed.
My TT Forbidden Fruit is up.
Very cool....Happy TT:)
Hi! I am reader, just as yourself. Crime is my guilty pleasure and I recenlty discovered a series by the auther Jo Nesbo. This series is about a detective named Harry Hole, and his cases... I just finished the 6th one tonight, and am getting ready for the 7th and last one. You should try them out.
I am to a big amazon.com fan, but I recently discovered shelfari.com which I also enjoy. There you can discuss books, read other readers reviews. You should check it out. Libary thing is also an option, but the two are pretty much the same. It evens allows you to have a bookshelf widget on your blog!
i also buy books from Barnes & Noble.

I've got a book blog with lots of book recommendations if you're interested. I've been visiting a lot of other book blogs and finding out about a lot of books from them too. I've got a huge TBR list now. LOL! You can also join Bookcrossing.com and check out the forums, I've gotten great recommendations there.
I just quit working at Borders a few months ago, after 6 1/2 years. I still miss the freebies.
And I like Paperback Swap online! (Or title trader)
I am on goodreads as Journeywoman. feel free to friend me.
Reccomendations: Thriller--Child 44 -Tom Rob Smith, romantic suspense--Die for me--Karen Rose

I never seem to have trouble growing my TBR list. Those B&N new release tables in front of the doors can be especially dangerous, as can recommendations from friends. GoodReads is also an excellent resource.
I didn't see mention of specific genres you like, but since you asked for recommendations - I mostly gravitate towards mystery/suspense, however one of the best books I read this year was The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Schafer.

An avid reader! Great! I recommend all Paolo Coelho's books, especially "By the river Piedra I sat down and wept"
Yeah. It's amazing, if you're a reader, how many sources lead you to new books. Happy TT!
I have no problem finding more books for my "to be read" list! Right now I'm rereading a favorite "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett.
Another place to check for personal reviews is Shelfari.com and you can ask anybody about a book you have interest in.
I have so many books to catch up with, I rarely get a chance to read new releases, but I do get some great suggestions from reading challenges. This site
http://novelchallenges.blogspot.com/
lists quite a few, with a big range in topics.
Feel free to browse my site for reviews.
This is a useful list. I need some new book recs very badly.
Happy TT!
Happy TT!
I wanted to thank you for your recommendation a month or two ago, for the book The Last Best League about the Cape Cod baseball league. I'm finishing up the very last chapter now and have really enjoyed it. I never would have heard of it if it hadn't been for your recommendation. Thanks!
Now . . . any more great baseball books to recommend? :) Gotta get my baseball fix until spring training rolls around again . . .
Very cool sites! Ummm... I have siuch eclectic reading taste that I find it difficult to recommend books for peeps I don't know, or at least know a bit of their taste in books. I love Shelfari.com. It's a readers social bookshelf site, (??) I'm "AuntieThorne" there
http://www.shelfari.com/auntiethorne/shelf
Come see books!
Happy TT!
What an excellent resource list. Thanks.
