ON BOOKS ~ No Excuses...

Today I have another of my recurring posts on the new group book blog, Quirky Girls Read. Previously I tried to define the Classic genre. Today's post is an attempt to debunk what I refer to as the Three Classic Excuses.

Through my posts every other Tuesday, I focus mostly on the world of Classics and how I hope to help people find an interest in it. A big hurdle to that is the frequent wall readers throw up at the mere mention of a Classic book recommendation. So today I try to tear that wall down.

So hop on over to QGR and let us know if you use any of the Three Classic Excuses and if I've done anything to change your mind. If that doesn't pique your interest, here are some of the other topics you'll find over there from the past week:

Haha! You are right on with that list of excuses, but you are also right that it is all baloney. Now, I have found that classics can often be more subtle with their messages, and have referred to online guides to help me past my idiocy, but it never seems like work. I wasn't required to read classics in school so I feel a little behind, but I'm getting there...

I agree to some extent....classics aren't boring, in any context beyond the normal...Length of novels? that's not an issue. Anyone who reads science fiction series goes through thousands of pages. The wheel of time series is more than twelve thousand, as an example.

The reason I have so many problems with them is the context. The classics are written from different viewpoints, in different points in time...in styles we aren't used to. It's harder to relate...reading from the past is much like reading from the minds of people from any foreign culture.
