ON MOVIES ~ The Sopranos...

Feature Presentation...
MONDAY MOVIE MEME

Molly looked around for a weekly meme about movies and did not have any luck. So therefore she decided to start her own! Andy will play along as well - hopefully you will too. Go to your blog and create your own post on the topic, linking back to us in your post, then come back and leave a link to your post here in our Comments section. If you don’t have a blog, just share your response in the Comments section.

This week's movie topic is all about Mobsters...

This weekend we saw lots of Trick Or Treaters dressed as Superheroes, Star Wars characters, Hobos, Fairies, Thomas the Train and even a few ghouls. But we never saw any mobsters. Maybe that is because it is tough to fashion a Tommy Gun out of a shoebox. But one thing is for sure, if a mobster rang our bell looking for a treat we would oblige ASAP. We've seen enough of their movies to know the kind of tricks they dole out. Here are our Top 3 - since we feel like we've been hogging all the good titles each week. Share on your blog mafia movies that left their mark with you and link back here at The Bumbles. And don't forget to visit your fellow participants to find their recommendations!

  • Goodfellas (1990) - What it is like to be a member of the Mafia. Scorsese explores the ins and outs of how the world works for a mobster as seen through Ray Liotta's (beautiful) eyes while he pals around with Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci with an extremely violent Napolean complex.
  • The Untouchables (1987) - What it is like to take on the Mafia as a Federal Agent - Eliot Ness vs. Al Capone. De Palma directs Costner, Connery, De Niro, Garcia. Doesn't get much better than this.
  • Donnie Brasco (1997) - What it is like to infiltrate the Mafia as an undercover cop. Johnny Depp and Al Pacino are marvelous here.
  • We just realized all of our choices are based on true stories. Maybe that extra reality is why we love them so much. A bonus selection - purely fictional but with a heavy aside to infamous mobster on the run Whitey Bulger is another Scorsese gem - The Departed. DiCaprio, Damon and Nicholson star in this heart pounding thriller from the Boston side of things. So forgive us the extra pick.

I wish I could participate this week, but I hate mobster movies! I remember liking Donnie Brascoe, but I'm pretty sure that was only because of Johnny Depp.
Maybe if I look at a few other lists I'll find one to like, but I avoid them unless my husband picks one that I have to watch (we have a yearly bet for March Madness).

Oh, I liked The Untouchables--great choice! The Departed was also wonderful. You are certainly allowed a plug for the home team (?)so to speak ;)

This is a fantastic topic! Mobster movies are great, they've got a little bit of everything and a lot of action!
GoodFellas is probably one of the best! I watch The Untouchables whenever it's on TV. I think it's a fantastic movie. Donnie Brasco wasn't one of my favorite movies but who cares, it's got Johnny Depp, need I say more? (you might not understand Andy!)

    Terrific list!

If, like Stacy, you hate the typical mob movie, check out my list for a few comedic suggestions. ;)

I had to stretch a bit this week, but I enjoyed your list. I'll have to watch Donnie Brasco one of these days.

    Mine is here.

I'm with Stacy...I hate mobster movies and I can't recall ever watching even one...So I think I'll have to pass on this week's meme! But I'll be back next week....

I kind of stay away from the really violent movies, so that's part of why I've never seen one!

I just re-watched Donnie Brasco with my son a few weeks ago. I love that movie but hate the ending..even though the ending makes sense and is true to the story!

As others have noted, the Godfather.

Also loved Scarface though it's gangster but not really mafia per se...
