MONDAY MOVIE MEME
Molly looked around for a weekly meme about movies and did not have any luck. So therefore she decided to start her own! Andy will play along as well - hopefully you will too. Leave a link to your blog post where you’ve shared your response or, if you don’t have a blog, share your response in the comment section at the end of this post.
This week's movie topic is all about War...
We were determined to make some headway in our Netflix queue on Saturday night but when we turned on the T.V., the opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan appeared on the screen. It is impossible to turn away from the entire opening sequence of that movie - regardless of how horrifying the images. We feel it is one of the most jarring images of war you can find in a movie. War lends itself well to film and here are some of our favorites. What about you?
- Glory (1989) - Civil War
- Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) - WWII
- Schindler's List ( 1993) - WWII
- Life Is Beautiful (1998) - WWII
The Deer Hunter (1978) - Vietnam
Born on the Fourth of July (1989) - Vietnam
Full Metal Jacket (1987) - Vietnam
- Three Kings (1999) - Gulf War
Black Hawk Down (2002) - Somalia

I'm lucky I made it out the door today with this topic! I decided my list would exclude Holocaust movies, because they feel like a genre unto themselves! But then I had to list them separately anyway! I love all the movies you have listed!
Not a big war movie fan (Schindler's List is the only one on your list I've actually seen), but my list's up now.
My post can be found HERE.
Nice to have found you. My list is up as well at http://www.nurseexec.com
I was raised on war movies, and so my list ended up being pretty long. :-) We share some of the same favorites.
My response is up. For those not interested in Watchmen, just scroll down below the Watchmen review.
I'm up!
Hi Molly and Andy! Thanks for the comment on my post. I have seen Hotel Rwanda, and it affected me also, but none the way Blood Diamond did. Yes, The Pianist is a truly sad, yet beautiful, movie :)
OMG, how did I miss Glory, Bridge on the River Kwai and Schindler's List? Actually I thought of Schindler but didn't include it because I didn't think of it as a war movie, per se.
Anyway, my list is on my blog, http://www.endomental.com/2009/03/monday-movie-meme-war-movies.html and nowhere near as comprehensive.
Wow! I finally found a Monday Meme that I can follow!
