ON BLOGGING ~ March Madness...

THE BUMBLES BLUEPRINT
(March, 2010)

Time for our monthly installment of The Bumbles Blueprint. Lately we've been having a spotty record with our promised posts promoted via the blueprint. Part of the problem is that we have been including planned posts related to outside posts for UpTake that just haven't been published due to other projects taking their place. Another reason is that time has been tight. But rather than throw in the towel with the blueprint, we have decided to keep "marching" along this month and try to do better delivering the goods to you. So here's a sample of what we expect to deliver to you in your Reader, In-Box or whenever you happen to stop by:

  • ON BLOGGING ~ Follow The Leader
  • ON BOOKS ~ A Lovely Dual Review
  • ON FOOD ~ nothing planned for March :0(
  • ON FUN ~ Big Love for Little Hearts
  • ON SPORTS ~ Opening Day
  • ON MOVIES ~ Overrated Oscars
  • ON MUSIC ~ Concert Boy Shares Another Show
  • ON PHOTOS ~ Images From America's Best Idea
  • ON TRAVEL ~ Travel Gem Opportunities

  • If you've got any topics you'd like us to cover, let us know and maybe we'll cover them in a post in April. Now would also be a good time to ask us questions, request updates on any prior posts, hand out compliments, make suggestions or lodge complaints. We aim to please but promise nothing.

    ON BLOGGING ~ Fickle February

    THE BUMBLES BLUEPRINT
    (February, 2010)

Time for our monthly installment of The Bumbles Blueprint. Last month we failed to come through with not one, but TWO promised topics of discussion. C'est la vie. We'll get to them eventually. Maybe even this month. Now, we do this blueprint each month to keep ourselves accountable and get a post plan organized so things are easier. But it is just a blueprint after all. Anyone who's done a renovation knows blueprints aren't set in stone! So here's a sample of what we HOPE to deliver to you in your Reader, In-Box or whenever you happen to stop by:

  • ON BLOGGING ~ Stalking
  • ON BOOKS ~ Taking on Tolstoy
  • ON FOOD ~ Something tasty we discovered in CT - (didn't do)
  • ON FUN ~ Free stuff and where to find it
  • ON SPORTS ~ Revisiting our pre-season NFL predictions
  • ON MOVIES ~ Date Night - (didn't do)
  • ON MUSIC ~ Concert Boy shares another show - (didn't do)
  • ON PHOTOS ~ Let your fingers do the walking
  • ON TRAVEL ~ Symphony Savings - (didn't do)

  • If you've got any topics you'd like us to cover, let us know and maybe we'll cover them in a post in March. Now would also be a good time to ask us questions, request updates on any prior posts, hand out compliments, make suggestions or lodge complaints. We aim to please but promise nothing.

    ON BLOGGING ~ January Gems...

    THE BUMBLES BLUEPRINT
    (January, 2010)

Time for our monthly installment of The Bumbles Blueprint. Last month we discussed a variety of topics surrounding the holiday season and wrapping up the year - though we did forget what exactly one of our topics' referenced back at the beginning of the month was actually supposed to be all about! Such is the pitfall of too much advance planning sometimes.

But without plotting out our thoughts things get a little dicey and we turn into blogging slackers. So we'll continue on with our blueprint posts - we'll just learn to make better "notes to self." Here is a sample of what we intend to deliver to you in your Reader, In-Box or whenever you happen to stop by:

  • ON BLOGGING ~ Keeping "tabs"
  • ON BOOKS ~ Series junkies
  • ON FOOD ~ Pizza with a conscious
  • ON FUN ~ TV programming we can't wait to see
  • ON SPORTS ~ Fantasy Football final results
  • ON MOVIES ~ Something monstrous
  • ON MUSIC ~ Andy takes a trip down Concert Boy memory lane
  • ON PHOTOS ~ A review of Molly's new Christmas present
  • ON TRAVEL ~ Passes to fun

  • If you've got any topics you'd like us to cover, let us know and maybe we'll cover them in a post in February. Now would also be a good time to ask us questions, request updates on any prior posts, hand out compliments, make suggestions or lodge complaints. We aim to please but promise nothing.

    ON BLOGGING ~ December Daze...

    THE BUMBLES BLUEPRINT
    (December, 2009)

Time for our monthly installment of The Bumbles Blueprint. Last month we covered all we promised, although we didn't share as many interesting vacation photos as we had intended. We linked to some elsewhere but the intent to feature more here got overlooked due to Turkey Day et al. Ah well.

This month we're getting into a festive, and sharing mood. We might get completely sidetracked with visions of sugarplums, but for now at least, here is a sample of what we plan to deliver to you in your Reader, In-Box or whenever you happen to stop by:

  • A recipe for those holiday parties (no stove involved - how else would Molly make it?)
  • An example of the joy of giving, and receiving
  • Camera input requests from fellow shutterbugs
  • Sharing one site that will let you get your geek on, and another that will bring out your beauty
  • Taking stock of a year in reading
  • Encouraging Resolutions

  • In addition to these posts tune in every week for our Monday Movie Meme, take part in our BlogAnon series discussions all day on Fridays, get updates on our Fantasy Football battles each Friday evening and vote on our Shutterday posts - a theme based photo contest every Saturday.

If you've got any topics you'd like us to cover, let us know and maybe we'll cover them in a post in December. Now would also be a good time to ask us questions, request updates on any prior posts, hand out compliments, make suggestions or lodge complaints. We aim to please but promise nothing.

    ON BLOGGING ~ November News...

    THE BUMBLES BLUEPRINT
    (November, 2009)

Time for our monthly installment of The Bumbles Blueprint. Last month we broke from our regular blueprint format to tell the tale of our first year of blogging. It was fun for us to look back and summarize our first year's experiences in the blogosphere. But it also meant that we didn't plot out a post schedule for the month and that resulted in an interesting experiment. It appears that without that mapped out guide, we fall apart. Without a nice list to reference each evening we wasted a lot of time wondering what to post about and it left us in a blah state of affairs as touched upon somewhat in our last BlogAnon post about Memes.

So since we like experiments we decided not to participate in Thursday Thirteen this month to allow for more non-meme related posts and to find out what kind of an impact it might have in our visitor stats. We'll let you know how that goes! And since we've learned our lesson about operating without a net, here is a sample of what we plan to deliver to you in your Reader, In-Box or whenever you happen to stop by:

  • Renovation adventures - motivated by a book giveaway received from Beth Fish Reads
  • How pets become family
  • Collaboration with a fellow blogger - on kitchens no less!
  • Revisiting a classic novel from childhood
  • Vacation shots
  • Blogging pet peeves, snobbery and other habits in the blogosphere

  • In addition to these posts tune in every week for our Monday Movie Meme, updates on our Fantasy Football battles each Friday evening and Shutterday posts - a theme based photo contest every Saturday.

If you've got any topics you'd like us to cover, let us know and maybe we'll cover them in a post in November. Now would also be a good time to ask us questions, request updates on any prior posts, hand out compliments, make suggestions or lodge complaints. We aim to please but promise nothing.

    ON BLOGGING ~ October(Blogger)fest...

    THE BUMBLES BLUEPRINT
    (October, 2009)

Time for our monthly installment of The Bumbles Blueprint. Last month we covered all our intended topics and features. But instead of the typical Blueprint format this month, we are going to celebrate our ONE YEAR Blogoversary!

A year ago, we unveiled our home here with THIS stellar post. OK, so not that exciting. But it was Miz B's meme that motivated us to set this blog up to begin with so that post holds a special place in our heart, even if no one left a comment.

We got a little shy and stepped away from posting for a couple of weeks to set up a proper blog sidebar and fill it with every widget we could find to try to dress things up a bit and make it more interesting since we didn't have any material or friends to tempt anyone with. Our trap worked because Wendi B. way out in Seattle fell for it and left us our very first comment. We thought we had become famous!

A week later, we decided to post our first original, non-meme related material and promptly alienated ourselves from the entire Tampa Bay region. That post even provided us with our first ever angry commenter which got us all fired up and determined to spread our love of good quality music, and baseball, to the blogosphere. It was also the first in our daily posting trend which has continued ever since.

We spent our first month finding, selecting and participating in a daily staple of memes to highlight the broad categories we had set out to cover from the very beginning. We had no trouble finding memes about books, music and photos. But there wasn't anything out there for movies. So, we started our own. It took a couple of months, but we eventually got it listed on The Daily Meme and finally got some exposure.

It also helped that we were introducing ourselves every day to all those other bloggers playing along with the memes we had joined. Memes often get a bad rap but if it weren't for them we wouldn't have started a blog, we wouldn't have been exposed to built-in communities of like minded souls and we wouldn't have drawn as much interest to our blog through the one we host.

At the turn of the New Year we got really excited because Sherry of Nite Swimming became our first known Follower (which we thought meant she was stalking us until we read up on the term) and then Jo-Jo at Jo-Jo Loves To Read gave us our first blog award. We were just completely overcome with the fact that at least two people (that we hadn't paid and that we weren't related to) wanted to read our blog. Recognition and a warm fuzzy feeling is always good motivation.

We spent a lot of time visiting blogs and making sure we treated all visitors to our home with respect. That meant leaving them a comment back in return that served a purpose and not just ourselves. And adding their blog's site to our blog roll for future reference and link love. We discovered that this common sense approach - not unlike the way we behave in the real world - was successful in building real relationships with others.

In the Spring, Molly was really into the groove of daily writing and decided to get bold and ask the UpTake travel website to let her provide guest posts. After requesting some writing samples she linked to our blog and they hired her to provide posts each month for their Attractions Blog. She was in heaven!

This opportunity allowed for our blog to be seen on a bigger stage so we decided it might be time to hear what a real blogging expert had to say and gain some tools to improve our home. So we joined Darren Rowse of ProBlogger in his Build A Better Blog month-long free course offering daily assignments and tips on doing just that. Our first assignment felt more like homework but we kept going and learned a lot. We changed the look of our site after some input from a blogging buddy we paired up with in one of the course forums. We dropped the plethora of memes we were overloaded with and built in more original posts. And we networked with some great people who we still visit - like Cardiogirl.

Darren's course encouraged us to begin using Google Analytics which is something that allows us to track our blog stats. It would have been interesting to see how we fared over the full year, but what we have is data from the last six months instead. It lets us see which posts are striking a chord and drawing attention and which ones aren't. It lets us see where all of you come from across the world and whether people like to drive by or stick around and come back for more. It shows that we are headed in the right direction and that as always in life, there is room for improvement.

So we keep setting goals and working toward them. Just in the last month Molly saw a job posting on ProBlogger and applied for that paid blogging gig. She submitted a sample post and asked readers here to check it out and leave a comment there to help her in her bid for the job. Without the support of those who did, she may not have been hired. So now she tries to return the favor by sharing links to her posts on LifeSnips which provide tips and tools in all facets of daily living. Just another example of how our blog here has been a benefit to us and why we continue to keep it going and interacting with anyone who wants to take the time.

Thank you for your interest, support and for the lessons you share. We know we are wordy Bumbles who like to bounce around from one thing to the next. But variety is the spice of life. And bland Bumbles are just plain boring. So we'll keep trying to entertain this month and always. Stay tuned - you never know what we'll come up with!

    ON BLOGGING ~ September Morn...

    THE BUMBLES BLUEPRINT
    (September, 2009)

Time for our monthly installment of The Bumbles Blueprint. Last month we continued our streak of delivering on all our promised posts! This might be a good time to point out that in addition to the Blueprint giving you an outline of what is to come, you can also refer to them at any time to use as a sort of archive of posts since we go back and add the appropriate links at month's end. Just an FYI - not that you, faithful reader, would have missed anything ;0)

This month is a little up in the air because we have another trip planned - this one to visit Molly's extended family - but the dates are not yet secured. So we may or may not need some guest posters, and we may or may not have some more travel related tales to share. But the hope is to be out of town the end of September. Here is what we do know - the following topics should be showing up in your Google Reader or In Box in the next few weeks. See our sidebar to sign up if you haven't already:

  • Blog-Anon - a new Margot inspired feature where we can confess our blog related sins
  • BBAW - Book Bloggers Appreciation Week is just around the corner
  • Life Is Just A Fantasy - Fantasy Football Throwdowns between the Bumbles
  • Birthday Blessings - So many to choose from
  • Mr. Friendly - Award time

  • In addition to these posts tune in every week for our Monday Movie Meme, installments of Molly's Ovah the Monstah series each Friday evening and sporadic Teaser Tuesday posts as books get completed. Molly also plays along with Shutterday - a theme based photo contest every Saturday.

If you've got any topics you'd like us to cover, let us know and maybe we'll cover them in a post in October. And if you would like to volunteer for a potential guest post be sure to leave a note. Now would also be a good time to ask us questions, request updates on any prior posts, hand out compliments, make suggestions or lodge complaints. We aim to please but promise nothing.

    ON BLOGGING ~ August Rush...

    THE BUMBLES BLUEPRINT
    (August, 2009)

Time for our monthly installment of The Bumbles Blueprint. Last month we actually hit all the promised posts! This is a first, so pin a gold star on us.

Since we spent the last week of July on a 1,300 mile road trip vacation odyssey you can expect lots of posts from us this month sharing observations from our trip. And we will be linking over to Molly's UpTake travel posts about them so stay tuned. We've also got some plans to celebrate with visiting friends, family and a wedding this month so we may slack off sporadically while enjoying life, but here are the posts we do have planned:

  • Life Without A GPS
  • Don't Camp Without It
  • Music Chatter
  • Lessons From The Road
  • A Tribute To Andy
  • Three Ways to Stay
  • Writing Perks

  • In addition to these posts tune in every week for our Monday Movie Meme, installments of Molly's Ovah the Monstah series each Friday evening and sporadic Teaser Tuesday posts as books get completed. Molly also plays along with Shutterday - a theme based photo contest every Saturday.

If you've got any topics you'd like us to cover, let us know and maybe we'll cover them in a post in September. Now would also be a good time to ask us questions, request updates on any prior posts, hand out compliments, make suggestions or lodge complaints. We aim to please but promise nothing.

ON BLOGGING ~ July Heats Up...

    THE BUMBLES BLUEPRINT
    (July, 2009)

Time for our monthly installment of The Bumbles Blueprint. Last month we continued our pattern of staying fairly true to the blueprint. Have you ever known one to be followed perfectly? We didn't do the "maybe" post about our trip to RI. We had lots of fun wandering about with family and friends and prefer to keep some adventures all to ourselves. Don't worry - Molly is sharing one stop along the way on the UpTake Attractions Blog.

Since we're talking about UpTake, we'll use this opportunty to shamelessly encourage you to subscribe to the Attractions Blog for a daily dose of excellent ideas and commentary about attractions throughout the U.S. (and parts of Canada too). Just in the last week it took you to a Science Museum in St. Paul, an afternoon stroll on the Upper East Side, Millennium Park in Chicago, a New Jersey approach to Lady Liberty, Fort Knox Park along the riverbanks of Maine, Legoland in Cali and Busch Gardens in Tampa. The Attractions Team is determined to be a premier blog on the UpTake site and Molly wants you to show your support and help her do her part to convert visitors into followers. You can pick up the feed HERE.

OK - enough procrastinating - back to our blueprint for July here at The Bumbles Blog. As mentioned yesterday, we will be on vacation at the end of the month. But that doesn't mean we plan to leave you high and dry. Here's some of what we have planned to entertain you this month:

  • Help Wanted
  • Tasty grub
  • Maximizing your Google searches
  • Concert Boy favorites
  • Why Goodreads rocks
  • Budget ideas
  • All Star = High School Prom

  • In addition to these posts tune in every week for our Monday Movie Meme, installments of Molly's Ovah the Monstah series each Friday evening and sporadic Teaser Tuesday posts as books get completed. Molly also plays along with Shutterday - a theme based photo contest every Saturday where she recently tied for 3rd place. If she can do it so can you!

If you've got any topics you'd like us to cover, let us know and maybe we'll cover them in a post in August. Now would also be a good time to ask us questions, request updates on any prior posts, hand out compliments, make suggestions or lodge complaints. We aim to please but promise nothing.

    ON BLOGGING ~ June Offerings...

    THE BUMBLES BLUEPRINT
    (June, 2009)

Time for our monthly installment of The Bumbles Blueprint. Last month we did pretty well by sticking to the blueprint. We skipped a post about new Passport rules (you need one now to get back into the U.S. - even from Canada or Mexico) because it didn't seem all that interesting to tell you about the androgynous "Pat" lookalike from the Saturday Night Live skits who handled our applications. We may skip or postpone something in June too, who knows. But here's what we intend to have happening here this month, in no particular order.

    • Travel planning for our July vacation
    • An attempt at releasing books into the wild via BookCrossing
    • Passing along some Awards each week that we've been hoarding
    • The best shoe EVER
    • A summary of our Blog Quest - not Vision Quest - Bumbles don't wrestle
    • Maybe some fun tales from a long weekend in Rhode Island
    • Phish tales

In addition to these posts we will still be posting the Monday Movie Meme, Thursday 13 posts, installments of Molly's Ovah the Monstah series each Friday evening and sporadic Teaser Tuesday posts as books get completed. We will also put up a picture for Wordless Wednesday whenever Molly has a new travel post featured on the UpTake Attractions Blog so that you can have a look at where the Bumbles have been. The link is also updated on the sidebar button in case you can't stop by on Wednesdays.

If you've got any topics you'd like us to cover, let us know and maybe we'll cover them in a post in July. Now would also be a good time to ask us questions, request updates on any prior posts, hand out compliments, make suggestions or lodge complaints. We aim to please but promise nothing.

    ON BLOGGING ~ May Days...

    THE BUMBLES BLUEPRINT
    (May, 2009)

We thought it would be nice to start a monthly feature called The Bumbles Blueprint that gives us an opportunity to organize ourselves a little and let you know what will be happening here from month to month. The whole blueprint thing sounds very professional and all but really it just flowed better than The Bumbles Summary of Stuff We Plan to Post About. Think of it as a quick little notice of events for our home here online.

As you may have noticed, we have been tweaking things on our blog, both visually and conceptually. We're still trying to find our way in this world and are having a lot of fun doing it. So thank you for coming along for the ride! Here's what we have in store for May, in no particular order.

In addition to these posts we will still have all of our regular Meme installments and Molly's free form Ovah the Monstah series posts each Friday evening. Just note that we won't necessarily take part in all the memes every week. This week for example, you are reading this instead of a Teaser Tuesday post because Molly is re-reading Faulkner's "As I Lay Dying" and his early pages are confusing enough without presenting them in a mere 2 sentences! Next week we may skip something else. But rest assured that the Monday Movie Meme will be up like clockwork - it would be bad form to skip our own meme.

So that's what we've got planned. If there's anything you'd like an update on (like the status of Andy's mustache) or want to hear our opinion about (like a more detailed review of Molly's recent reads) just leave it in the comments section. We aim to please but promise nothing. It is baseball season you know, in addition to both the Bruins and Celtics being in the playoffs. That DVR is working overdrive!
